The service

A plumber who actually answers the phone - and finishes the job.

Most plumbing complaints aren't really about the pipework - they're about the plumber. Late arrivals, half-finished jobs, dust everywhere, no plasterer to make good. We work as one team, so a leak under a tile becomes a fully working bathroom by Friday - not three contractors and a mess.

  • Leak detection and emergency stop-off
  • Tap, mixer, shower valve, toilet and cistern replacement
  • Full bathroom installations - strip out, plumbing, tiling, plaster, decoration
  • Wet rooms and disabled-access showers
  • Immersion heaters, hot water cylinders and unvented systems
  • Outside taps, washing machine plumbing, dishwasher installation
  • Pipework re-routes for kitchen and bathroom refits

What happens if you wait

A small leak is never just a small leak.

A pinhole on a 15mm pipe drips less than half a litre a day. In a month it's saturated a chipboard floor, swelled a kitchen unit and started lifting the laminate. The repair was £80; the kitchen is £8,000.

Hidden water damage

Slow leaks behind tiles, under baths and in airing cupboards rot floorboards, joists and stud walls long before you see a stain on the ceiling below.

Limescale-killed valves

Cheap mixer cartridges and ignored stopcocks seize solid in Teesside's hard water. When you need to turn the water off in an emergency, the valve snaps in your hand.

DIY bathroom failures

Silicone sealed over a leak, push-fit fittings used in concealed locations, no isolation valves, plumbing buried in plaster without testing - these are the jobs we get called to redo every month.

Our process

A clear path from your call to job done.

  1. Step 1

    Phone diagnosis

We talk you through stopping the water and getting safe. For booked work we agree a fixed scope, materials and price up front.

  2. Step 2

    On-site assessment

Isolation valves checked, pressures tested, hidden pipework traced where needed before any tile or plaster comes off.

  3. Step 3

    Repair or install properly

Soldered joints in concealed runs, isolation valves on every appliance, full system test under pressure before anything closes back up.

  4. Step 4

    Make-good and reinstate

Plaster, tiling and decoration handled by the same team. You don't have to find a separate plasterer or tiler.

  5. Step 5

    Test, demonstrate, tidy

Hot and cold tested, drainage flow checked, fittings demonstrated, area cleaned. Written invoice and any manufacturer paperwork left with you.

Deep detail

Plumbing jobs we handle every week across Teesside.

Leaks, bursts and emergency stop-offs

Active leaks are prioritised. On arrival we isolate the supply (mains stopcock, gate valve to cylinder, isolation valves under sinks), trace the source, and either repair under pressure or drain down and replace the failed section. Common causes in Teesside are pinholes on old 15mm copper near boilers, failed push-fit joints in lofts, split flexi-tails on basin taps, and burst plastic pipe in airing cupboards after a hard frost. We carry copper, push-fit, brass valves and flexi-tails in standard sizes so most leaks are fixed in a single visit.

Bathroom installations

A full bathroom job is a structured 5–10 day project: strip out, first-fix plumbing (new soil, supplies, traps), electrical first-fix (shaver, fan, lights, towel rail), plaster and aqua-board, tile, second-fix plumbing (sanitaryware, taps, shower valves), silicone and decoration. We price the whole project fixed, against a written spec - sanitaryware, tile and accessory choices agreed before we order. You see the same person every day, on a clean and protected site.

Wet rooms and disabled-access showers

Level-access wet rooms need a properly formed gradient, tanking system, and the right drain choice (linear vs centre point) - get any of these wrong and water ends up under the floor. We tank the room with a fully-bonded waterproof membrane, fit a proper graded former, and tile in to a thermostatic mixer valve. Disabled-access work pairs naturally with our disabled adaptation service (grab rails, fold-down seats, easy-access doors).

Taps, toilets, valves and small replacements

Tap and mixer replacements, leaking toilet cisterns, dripping overflows, failed thermostatic shower cartridges, immersion heater replacements, outside tap installation with double-check valve and isolation, washing machine and dishwasher plumbing - bread-and-butter jobs that benefit from being done with proper isolation valves so the next repair is straightforward.

What we don't do

We don't carry out gas work or boiler installations - those legally require a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we won't pretend otherwise. We work alongside trusted local Gas Safe engineers for combined jobs (e.g. bathroom refit with a new bathroom radiator on a wet system) so you get one project, two qualified trades.

FAQ

Plumbing questions, answered straight.

Still unsure? Send us a message or call 07966 442128.

Are you available out of hours for emergency leaks?+

Our 24/7 line is for locksmith call-outs. For active leaks, call as early as you can and we'll talk you through isolating the water, then book the earliest available plumbing slot - usually same day.

How much does a plumber cost in Middlesbrough?+

Most small repairs (taps, toilets, leak fixes, isolation valves) fall into a fixed call-out price agreed on the phone before we set off. Larger jobs (bathrooms, wet rooms, re-plumbs) are quoted fixed-price in writing after a free site visit.

Do you do gas or boiler work?+

No. Gas and boiler installations legally require a Gas Safe registered engineer. We don't do that work, but we partner with trusted local Gas Safe engineers for combined projects so you still get one point of contact.

How long does a full bathroom take?+

A typical family bathroom from strip-out to fully tiled, decorated and signed-off is 5–10 working days depending on tiling complexity and waiting on bespoke products. We give a firm schedule before we start.

Can you tile and plaster as well as plumb?+

Yes. Bathroom and wet-room work is delivered by our in-house team - plumber, tiler, plasterer, decorator. You don't need to find a tiler or a plasterer separately.

What's the cost of fitting an outside tap?+

An outside tap, fitted with isolation valve and double-check valve to WRAS standards through a brick wall, typically falls in the low hundreds and is usually completed in a single half-day visit.

Will I be without water for long?+

On a planned job we usually have the water back on by the end of the working day, or we leave a temporary feed in place. On an emergency we get water restored as fast as the failure allows.

Do you work with letting agents and landlords?+

Yes - landlord call-outs, planned bathroom refurbs and end-of-tenancy plumbing checks are a major part of what we do. We invoice agents directly with itemised paperwork and photo evidence.

Are you insured?+

Yes. A Slater & Son Property Services Ltd carries £5 million public liability insurance on every job. We also back every trade with a 12-month workmanship guarantee. Company No. 16298499.

Do you cover Stockton, Redcar, Hartlepool and Darlington?+

Yes - plumbing across all of Teesside including Middlesbrough, Stockton, Thornaby, Ingleby Barwick, Redcar, Marske, Saltburn, Hartlepool and Darlington.
