The service

Second-fix joinery that looks right and works right.

Joinery is one of those trades where the difference between 'fine' and 'right' is millimetres. We hang doors so they swing true and close without a slam. We mitre skirting so the joint disappears. We scribe worktops to a wonky wall. It's the kind of work people don't notice - until they see a job done badly somewhere else.

  • Internal doors hung with proper hinges and locks
  • External doors - composite, hardwood, fire-rated
  • Skirting, architrave, dado, picture rail and box-in work
  • Kitchen unit fitting and worktop joining (including solid surface)
  • Fitted wardrobes, alcove shelving and bespoke storage
  • Stair repair, spindles, newel posts, handrails
  • Decking, fencing, gates and outdoor structures

What happens if you wait

Bad joinery doesn't stop being bad - it just gets worse.

A door that catches gets worse as the timber moves. Skirting with gaps gets caulked then re-caulked. A kitchen with a 5mm twist in the run shows up every time the worktop sits proud at a join. The fixes get expensive once the next trade has finished on top.

Doors that won't lock

Internal doors hung out of square jam against the frame, won't latch properly, and over time pull the hinges out of the timber. A 45-minute re-hang at fit-out becomes a half-day frame repair later.

Skirting and architrave gaps

Mitres cut at the wrong angle and skirting that isn't scribed to an uneven floor leave gaps that filler can't hide. The result looks DIY for the lifetime of the room.

Kitchen runs that don't line up

Cabinets dropped in without levelling, plinths cut on the day instead of templated, and worktops jointed dry - all visible every time you make a cup of tea.

Our process

A clear path from your call to job done.

  1. Step 1

    Measure & spec

We measure on site, agree the spec (door style, ironmongery, timber, finish), and write a fixed quote with all materials listed.

  2. Step 2

    Order & dry-fit

Doors and units ordered to the agreed spec. Where it matters, we dry-fit before fixing - better to spot an issue with the door blank than after it's painted.

  3. Step 3

    Hang & fit properly

Hinges morticed in (not surface-screwed), doors planed for clearance, latches mortised cleanly, skirting and architrave mitred and pinned with no gaps.

  4. Step 4

    Scribe and adjust

Worktops scribed to the wall. Skirting scribed to uneven floors. Architrave levelled. The fix is in the prep, not the caulk gun.

  5. Step 5

    Snag and finish

Every door checked closed and open, every drawer and hinge adjusted, all fixings concealed, surfaces cleaned. Painter then takes over.

Internal and external doors

Internal doors are hung on two or three butt hinges (heavier doors get three) properly morticed into both door and frame. Clearance is planed to 2mm top and sides, 6–8mm at the bottom for carpet. Latches and locks are morticed cleanly with the strike plate aligned for a clean close. External doors are heavier work - composite and hardwood doors need accurate frame preparation, weatherseal alignment and the right multi-point lock or mortice. Fire-rated doors (FD30/FD60) for HMOs and flats need correct fire seals, intumescent strips and three hinges per the BWF spec - we fit them to the standard the certificate requires.

Skirting, architrave and trim

Skirting is mitred at external corners and scribed at internal corners - never just mitred on both - so the joint stays tight if timber moves. Architrave is set on a consistent margin to the door frame and pin-nailed clean. Dado and picture rail are levelled around the whole room before fixing. All mitres are glued and pinned so they can't open up.

Kitchens and worktops

Kitchen unit fits start with checking the floor and walls for level and plumb, then setting the base run from the highest point. Carcasses are levelled and screwed together before doors and drawers, so the fronts line up. End panels are scribed to the wall. Worktops are templated, cut clean, and butt or mason's-mitre jointed with proper biscuit jointing and worktop bolts on laminate; solid surface jointed and bonded to manufacturer spec. Plinths are scribed to the floor, not just trimmed.

Fitted wardrobes, alcoves and storage

Alcove shelving and cupboards built in to fit the actual room dimensions - not flat-pack approximations. We design with you (depth, shelf spacing, lighting, doors vs open), build a carcass that's scribed to walls and ceiling, and finish either painted or in real timber/veneer. The piece looks built-in because it is.

Stairs, decking, fencing and external work

Stair repair (treads, risers, spindles, newel posts, handrails), full balustrade replacement, decking with proper joist spacing and fixings, close-board and feather-edge fencing, gates and gate hardware. External timber is treated and fitted to last in Teesside weather, not just cobbled up to look fine on day one.

How much does a joiner cost in Middlesbrough?+

Single jobs (hanging a door, fitting a skirting run, scribing a worktop) are quoted per task, typically in the low hundreds. Larger jobs (kitchen fits, fitted wardrobes, full second-fix on a refurb) are quoted fixed-price in writing after a free site visit.

Can you hang a door I've bought myself?+

Yes - though we'll check it for you first. Cheap blank doors can be out of square or twisted, and it's better to spot that before fitting than after.

Do you fit fire doors for HMOs and flats?+

Yes - FD30 and FD60 fire-rated doors fitted to BWF certificated spec, including intumescent and smoke seals, three hinges, the correct closer and door furniture.

Can you fit a kitchen I've ordered from Howdens / B&Q / Wickes / Ikea?+

Yes. We're experienced fitting carcasses and worktops from all the major suppliers. We can also coordinate the plumbing, electrics, tiling and decoration in-house.

Do you make bespoke wardrobes and alcove units?+

Yes. Fitted to the actual room dimensions, with internal layout designed with you. Painted finish or real timber/veneer.

How long does a kitchen fit take?+

A typical kitchen fit (carcasses, doors, worktops, sink, taps, basic appliances) is 5–10 working days depending on tiling and changes to plumbing or electrics. We give a fixed schedule in the quote.

Can you repair a damaged staircase?+

Yes - treads, risers, spindles, newel posts and handrails can be replaced or repaired in matching timber. Full balustrade replacements available in traditional or contemporary designs.

Do you fit decking and fencing?+

Yes - decking with proper joist spacing and fixings, close-board and feather-edge fencing, gates and gate hardware, built for Teesside weather.

Do you guarantee your joinery work?+

Yes — every trade is backed by our 12-month workmanship guarantee. If anything works loose, drips or needs adjusting within 12 months, we return and fix it free of charge. Manufacturer warranties on doors, ironmongery and kitchens are passed through to you.

Do you cover Stockton, Redcar, Hartlepool and Darlington?+

Yes. Joinery across the whole of Teesside - Middlesbrough, Stockton, Thornaby, Ingleby Barwick, Redcar, Marske, Saltburn, Hartlepool and Darlington.
